Getting Out
In much of the country, it seems like spring took ages to finally settle in. Sure, it officially started weeks ago. Now that it is finally here, I find myself spending more time indoors than I should. Despite the beautiful weather, there’s always so much that keeps me indoors: writing, reading blogs and newspapers, doing necessary household chores, et cetera. Fortunately, for me, I have a friend that insists I (and my husband) spend several hours a week outdoors. We have a terrier mix that we adopted from a shelter where we lived a couple of years ago.
While I’ve seen dogs that are quite content to be carried around like an accessory, our dog is having none of it. Originally, terriers were working breeds, and our dog seems to have retained some of the characteristics accordingly. As it is, he is in a state of constant vigilance—for what, we don’t know—so if he isn’t walked a good hour or so a day, he’s a maniac. For those of you who aren’t lucky enough to have someone who insists that you go out everyday, I present these Sterling Terrier Cufflinks:

I think that the artist really captured the way that these dogs are so alert, so ready to face the world. That’s a perspective that can help us all, no?
