The Hawaiian State Quarter was the last in the U.S. Mint's 50 State Quarter Program . This beautiful quarter features the famous King Kamehameha I stretching out his hand toward the eight major islands of Hawaii. There is an expression on the coin which has the state famous motto, ""Ua Mau Ke Ea O Ka'Aina I Ka Pono"" which means that the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness. The artist applies a rainbow of colors to the design, then by a unique high temperature firing process the color is sealed. The process is repeated after each color is applied.
