Any three colors that are equally spaced around the color wheel and can form a triangle. Also, any four colors that can create a rectangle, so any two pairs of colors that are opposite each other.

To better understand this, let’s breakdown the color wheel.

The color wheel has primary colors that are equally spaced on the color wheel.

Red

Yellow

Blue

These can combine to make any color.

Secondary colors are when you combine two primary colors.

Green

Orange

Purple

Tertiary colors are when you combine one primary with one secondary color. Examples are blue and green, combining to create a teal.

Analogous colors are grouping three or four colors that are in a row on the color wheel.

Complementary colors are those that are directly opposite on the color wheel like red and green. These colors will always look complementary and flattering together (Not mixed though!).

Now that you understand the basics of color theory, you can confidently apply these rules to your wardrobe and know that you will always look your best. All you must do is check out the color wheel and instantly know which colors will look flattering and good together. Cufflinks are the perfect way to really make these color combinations work; after all, they are a subtle way to add to your look. You might not be able to so easily get away with combining, say a yellow jacket with a purple shirt, but you can easily wear a yellow shirt with smaller purple cufflinks. Cufflinks are the perfect way to incorporate color into your wardrobe in a simple, but stunning way. They are also the ideal area to really let your creativity fly and express yourself through your fashion. Don’t just follow trends, set them.

The following are some classic color combinations that are color theory approved.

Red and Blue

These two opposites create a striking and super flattering combination. Whether you go with red cufflinks and a blue shirt, or the opposite, rest assured that this combination is always a winner.

Blue Round Engravable Cufflinks

Sterling Red Porsche Carrera Cufflinks

Purple and Yellow

This combination is bold and effortlessly stunning.
