It’s Financial Literacy Month
Financial History
In 2003, the US Congress showed its support for financial literacy in America by passing a resolution that made the month of April Financial Literacy Month. Although several states already had their own month to highlight the importance of financial literacy, it was made official when it passed the Senate unanimously.
In 2006, the Financial Literacy and Education Commission released a report titled, “Taking Ownership of the Future: The National Strategy for Financial Literacy” that detailed a strategy for helping Americans improve their understanding of financial issues such as credit management, savings, and homeownership.
Today, companies and organizations around the country take time this month to educate the nation about the importance of understanding their finances and understanding how money works.
So, this week, to celebrate all things money and finance related, we’re going to look at some of the options here at Cufflinks Depot that will help you focus on your financial world this month.

Shine with the Stars at Your Oscars Party
On March 4th, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences will hold their annual Academy Awards award show, also knows as the Oscars. It’s later than usual this year, so that it doesn’t conflict with the 2018 Winter Olympics. That means you have more time to upgrade your fashion before the Oscars Party!
A Little Oscars History

The Academy Awards (Oscars) are a set of 24 awards for artistic and technical distinction in the United States film industry, given annually to recognize excellence in cinematic achievements. First created in 1929, each category winner is awarded a copy of a golden statuette which has become commonly known by its nickname “Oscar”. Hence, “The Oscars.”
The Academy Awards’ first broadcast in 1930 was actually a radio broadcast, and only became televised in the 1950s. It is the oldest worldwide entertainment awards ceremony, and it is televised in over 200 countries (and streamed online to many more).
This year, during the ceremony, the AMPAS will award Oscars in 24 categories, most notably Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
So How Do You Party?
One of the best traditions to accompany this fabulous awards ceremony is that of the Oscars Party. Friends and family gather to admire the elegance of the celebrities as they walk down the red carpet, while marveling at the women’s beautiful gowns. And they place bets on who the big winners will be.
When you make your grand entrance, even if it’s not on the red carpet (but especially if it is), you want to make a statement. Whether you’re wearing a formal jacket or not, whether you’re wearing a tuxedo or not, you can celebrate the film industry with the perfect pair of cufflinks.
Film Forward Cuff Links
Your love of film is matched only by your love of a great Oscars party! You should be wearing cuff links that show off your fanaticism. If you can recite the winners of past Oscars, you need these now!

Modern Cuff Links
Maybe sleek and modern is your thing. Or perhaps is the appeal of something shiny. Regardless, if your goal is to look sharp and chic, you’ll want to explore these elegant options:

Mardi Gras Cufflinks for Fat Tuesday
Mardi Gras History
Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday, is part of the carnival celebrations that begin after Three Kings Day and continue until Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lent Season. Since Lent is a time of foregoing something of value, often food or another enjoyable activity, Fat Tuesday is the last big hurrah before the fast begins.
To mark the day before the beginning of Lent, Mardi Gras is a time of indulgence. Revelers eat rich food, attend opulent balls, and party until the early morning hours. And although most people think of Mardi Gras as a single day, it’s actually a celebration that takes place over several days or weeks (depending on where you’re celebrating the holiday).
Parading and Partying
The Mardi Gras parade is probably the best known aspect of the holiday. It features giant, colorful floats, beautiful costumes, and lots and lots of beads! The first Mardi Gras parade held in New Orleans took place in 1837. The tradition in New Orleans expanded to the point that it became synonymous with the city, and isembraced by residents of New Orleans regardless of their ethnic or religious background.
On Mardi Gras Day, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the last parades of the season wrap up and the celebrations come to a close with the Meeting of the Courts (known as the Rex Ball). Other local Krewes host their own balls and many locals spend the evening partying in the streets.
Dress It Up for a Mardi Gras Ball
Although New Orleans is the city most often associated with this fun season, Mardi Gras is celebrated in many other cities. However, if you’re attending one of the Mardi Gras balls, you need to look your best because most of the best ones are black-tie events. And even if you’re not, it’s fun to show you party spirit at work. We’ve got some ideas for you that include cufflinks with the traditional Mardi Gras colors of green, purple, and gold:

If you’re having trouble finding what you want, we’d love to help. Give us a call and one of our friendly support team members will be glad to work with you to find the perfect pair of cufflinks.
