Pink Rose Cufflinks

Cufflink Color Theory

Matching colors correctly can be difficult. It’s hard to know what color shirt and jacket should go with what cufflinks. Let alone the complications of color theory and which colors are flattering and which will have a repulsive effect. Luckily, we have broken it down and simplified color matching so that you can dress with confidence.

Color Theory 101

Color theory, at its core, states that harmonious color combinations, that is, those that look flattering together are any two colors opposite each other. Any three colors that are equally spaced around the color wheel and can form a triangle. Also, any four colors that can create a rectangle, so any two pairs of colors that are opposite each other.

To better understand this, let’s breakdown the color wheel.

The color wheel has primary colors that are equally spaced on the color wheel.

        1. Red
        2. Yellow
        3. Blue

These can combine to make any color.

Secondary colors are when you combine two primary colors.

        1. Green
        2. Orange
        3. Purple

Tertiary colors are when you combine one primary with one secondary color. Examples are blue and green, combining to create a teal.

Analogous colors are grouping three or four colors that are in a row on the color wheel.

Complementary colors are those that are directly opposite on the color wheel like red and green. These colors will always look complementary and flattering together (Not mixed though!).

Now that you understand the basics of color theory, you can confidently apply these rules to your wardrobe and know that you will always look your best. All you must do is check out the color wheel and instantly know which colors will look flattering and good together. Cufflinks are the perfect way to really make these color combinations work; after all, they are a subtle way to add to your look.
