Making Nice While Stealing Their Thunder

While couples sometimes opt to make a special trip to let their family members know that they’ve gotten engaged, it is more common to make the announcement the next family gathering. In other words, you could end up making the announcement at an event that is not supposed to be about you, such as a holiday, or a dinner party or barbeque celebrating something else. Your announcement will inevitably steal someone’s thunder, so how do you smooth things over in the process? In my estimation, reminding loved ones how important they are and will continue to be in your life always goes far. Adding a gift doesn’t hurt, either. These Father of the Bride Cufflinks do both:

What better way to smooth things over with Dad after you’ve stolen the show at what was supposed to the inaugural weekend of his new hi-tech barbeque grill? (Kebabs just aren’t as a big a deal when someone walks in with news like a fall wedding, are they?) As you can see, our store offers a number of variations on such cufflinks, so everyone can be happy.

Vegas, Baby

Need a reminder of your fun Vegas wedding as planning the formal reception the in-laws insisted on gets increasingly laborious? These Roulette Wheel Cufflinks might do the trick:

They’ll remind you of the reason why you took a chance to get married in the first place, and be an amusement near your wrists when Uncle George makes things awkward by calling your new wife not by her name, but “Jessica,” the name of your old girlfriend.

Groomsmen at the Pool Hall

By the time the hubby and I got married, a number of our friends had already done so. I doubt our friends—mutual and ones that are less so—had any profound concerns that we would disappear from their lives, or become entirely different people. However, I do remember how we felt when our friends first started getting married. We were unsure of how our friendships would change, or whether we would stay in the married couple’s life, and we both figured such a topic was far too self-centered to be appropriate conversation with two people very busy planning a wedding.

When you’re getting married, one way to let your friends—particularly those who are helping out with all the wedding festivities— know that you’re not going anywhere is to keep things light with a gift that reminds them of your friendship as singletons. To that end, I think that these 8-Ball Cufflinks would make a great groomsmen’s gift from a guy* who likes to play pool with his friends:

They’ll let the groomsmen know you haven’t forgotten them, and will still be able to get out for a game every now and then.

*Or bridesmaids’ gifts from a gal, or attendant’s gifts… although not all of us play pool, who among us didn’t spend some of our adolescence seeking guidance from a so-called “magic” 8-ball?

A Sale for All You Busy Bees

Our Designer Cufflinks are currently on sale for 10% off! In order to get the sale price, be sure to enter code DESIGNER when you checkout. I’ve featured designer cufflinks here before, so now is your chance to pick them up at a discounted rate! One set that I really like are these Yellow Bee Cufflinks:

I think that they are stunning. These cufflinks have a clean, simple, design that is also unique, distinct, and immediately recognizable as a bee. I also like the pairing of hand-painted enamel with sterling silver. They’re perfect for any occasion.

The 3 R’s of Gifting Green

By now, we all realize that we have to reduce, reuse, and recycle if we want to keep our precious planet in the condition we inherited it. At our house, we try to embody the basics of a green lifestyle, and find that most of it is pretty easy. We take our lunches to work in reusable containers instead of using plastic bags and wraps that we’d have to throw out in one use. We use cloth napkins, and bring grocery bags to the store. Indeed, a lot of what we do to be green ends up saving us money, which makes our gift-giving budget a little bigger. Even if our budget is flexible, we still try to be careful where we spend our money in that we try to make eco-conscious purchases.

When you buy new items made from recycled materials, you encourage future recycling by sustaining the industry. Also, since quite a bit of innovation goes into using recycled materials in new items, they often make for very unique creations. At our store, we have a huge selection of recycled pens and cufflinks available, including some made from stamps that I’ve highlighted before. When my husband and I were talking about what to get his father for his birthday, I thought of these Shea Stadium Cufflinks:

He’s a Queens resident, and, as such, a Mets fan (like the hubby himself). The Mets recently moved to a new stadium, so an item from Shea is all the more significant. I’m sure my father-in-law would love them. These cufflinks are just some of the unique recycled items we carry, and I have no doubt that one would make a perfect gift for your loved one, or a treat for yourself.

Stimulus Package: Corporate Gifts

It may not get covered by all of the major media outlets, or require several days deliberation, but a home-grown “stimulus package” of sorts—in the way of corporate gifts—for a corporate executive or small-business owner can be very effective in boosting morale. In a time when rumor and fears are running rampant, those in leadership positions in the workplace would do well to let their workers know that they are appreciated, and part of a team.

To that end, our store has much to offer in the way of corporate gifts. One way to remind everyone that they are working towards a common goal is to give them a gift bearing the company insignia or logo. Our store offers engravable cufflinks and other items. My favorites are these Classic Round Engravable Cufflinks and this Round Silver Keyring:

Both of these are so classic and tasteful that they are sure to please the varied personalities that make up your business team.

Two Days Away

Well, there are only two days until Valentine’s Day. Are you all set, or will you be fighting the crowds at the mall for some last-minute shopping? I’ve never been much of a mallrat myself, so I tend to do most of my shopping online, even when it is last-minute. If you’re still looking for something for the guy in your life, our store has loads to offer, and overnight shipping! These “Je T’aime” Cufflinks are my favorites:

I think that they’re a great way to give a loved one a wearable reminder that he’s always in your heart. Or, if you’ve been dropping hints to your best pal that you want to exit buddyville to become something more, these are also great. (Just remember to give him a link to a translation if he isn’t a Francophile!)

Happily Ever After

After the ceremony, after the toasts, after the dances, after all the presents are opened, what’s left? What happens after the year of being engaged and planning a wedding? What happens after the event? Married life may not give you as many opportunities for formal attire or Jordan almonds wrapped in organza, but it is so much bigger than the wedding. Marriage is hard work, but it is also so much bigger and greater than a single day of celebration.

This is why couples celebrate their wedding day each year. They don’t celebrate the day they wore fancy clothes and hung out with 300 of their nearest and dearest. Rather, an anniversary is a special occasion because it is a chance to celebrate another year of love, another year of sharing a life together, another year of working to be there for one another. What better way to end our wedding week than to showcase these Hearts & Wedding Ring Cufflinks that celebrate love and marriage?

The day after the wedding is when the adventure begins.

Giving the Entourage Their Due: Bridesmaids Gifts

To continue on a theme, we can’t neglect the bridesmaids. They certainly provide just as much moral support as groomsmen, and often do more in the way of preparing for the wedding. Indeed, in some cases, the night before the wedding, as the groom and his entourage are out on the town, the bride and the bridesmaids are doing last minute preparations like gluing teeny tiny bows on placecards designating where guests should sit, or wrapping yogurt-covered almond wedding favors. (Hopefully, they have already enjoyed themselves at a bachelorette party or bridal shower weeks before!) In any case, they certainly deserve a little something for all of their support. I like this Cranberry Colored Jewelry Box:

It is practical and classic, and would serve well on any bureau. If budget allows, you can even add a pair of earrings or bracelet to the box and make it even more special!

Giving the Entourage Their Due: Groomsmen Gifts

At many weddings, the couple is joined by a wedding party made up of bridesmaids, groomsmen, and/or attendants. While these people are important on the day of the wedding, they stand with the couple because of all that they’ve done before the wedding. Bridesmaids, groomsmen, and attendants are typically made up of you best friends and/or siblings. They’ve been around for years, and their participation in the wedding shows that they plan on sticking around in the couple’s life. Most couples opt to give the members of the wedding party gifts to thank them not only for that day, but for all that they have done before.

The question is, what to give? With all the hustle and bustle— literally —of preparing for the big day, there just may not be enough time for an excursion to the mall to get several gifts. Fortunately, our store can make things easier!

As you can see here, we have a variety of options for groomsmen gifts in our store, including cufflinks. Cufflinks are a traditional groomsman gift for a reason; they’re practical, and they never go out of style.

I like these Sterling Rectangular Engraveable Cufflinks:

Their clean design makes them a classic, and the fact that you can customize them is a boon. These cuff links will work for many events long after the wedding. Taking the extra bit of effort to customize a gift shows how much you care, and finding time to do so while preparing a huge event like a wedding is even more significant. Isn’t your entourage worth it?
